painting and moving should always be left to the professioals

And of course I did not heed that advice. Come on, we had just purchased an apartment. Savings gone. Now we need to pay for movers and painters. Don't think so. Time to roll up your sleeves and do it yourself.

the apartment hunt

Long story short: my boyfriend, Thomas, and I bought an apartment. We closed on June 23rd, 2008.

The Apartment: It's a co-op in Woodside Queens. We've been living in Queens pretty much the entire time we have lived in New York City. (For those of you who are not familiar with New York, Queens is a borough in New York City so although I don't live in Manhattan--also a borough--I still live in New York City which is made up of 5 boroughs--Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn and Staten Island.)

It's small but it's New York so you know how that goes. It's about 720 square feet.

I'll be posting pictures.

over a year of nothingness

So I signed up for blogger over a year ago with the intention of documenting my time in this crazy life that I live in New York City. Not that it's crazy like what one would expect from seeing on TV or in the movies (my life is definitely not like Carrie's). But what was so fascinating about my move from Texas to New York was the experiences I was having that I would have never had, if I were not in Advertising. There's a show now, Mad Men (love it) that shows a little of what I'm talking about. But it really doesn't do it justice.

I can (and used to) go to bars and clubs almost every night and not pay for single drink. I get taken out to the nicest restaurants for lunches and dinners. I've been to great broadway shows, trapeze school, the Forbes yacht, seen Justin Timberlake, Madonna, and Kayne. You name the sports team, and I've been to the game...enough times that I'm now more of a sports fan for new york teams than I was for texas teams (save the Cowboys...oh yah, saw them play the Giants in New York).

It's crazy what I've experienced...much of which I could not afford and/or wouldn't even dream of doing.

That's what this blog was going to be about. Documenting it all. But I failed to do that, because what I didn't realize was that while I do get to have all this fun...the work is hard and the day is long.

Now that I've been in this for a while, I have some time to actually post things. I'm not sure what I actually will talk about. I really don't have exciting stories...life has pretty much calmed down. I wish i were ambitious enough to turn this into a money making blog...something about fashion or food or sex (all of which could turn a buck). But I can honestly say that the only people who are going to read this blog, are those that I send the link to. And even then, I don't even think you could call this a blog as it really has no theme and/or readers.

My next post is going to be about the apartment my boyfriend and I just purchased. Not too exciting but I know my family and friends back home would like to see the apartment so that's what I'm using this space for.

Yah.
